Man vs Table/Steps to Remove Braincells...

Here it is, blog post number two.

I'm sure everyone is excited for the stress-induced coma that is exams. Me I'm ecstatic. I was gifted with my four exams falling over two days (that's two exams per day for those of you playing at home). What a joke. I hardly see how making someone  waste 3 hours of their life is really demonstrating acquired knowledge...

Anyway, procrastination stations are go, read more below to find out about this week's efforts in removing braincells, adventures through exotic destinations and the joys of public transport....

Back to School, Back to School..

'.. to prove to Dad that I'm not a fool. I got my lunch packed up, my boots tied tight, I hope I don't get in a fight. Ohhhh, back to school. Back to school. Back to school. Well, here goes nothing....' Billy Madison was right. Personally, I think the break we were given would have been better placed at the end of trimester as exam revision time (or even spaced them a bit later so we wouldn't have the crap-tastic concept that is 6pm exams). Keeping with the whole exam concept, I recently watched this:

Probably not the most aptly titled film, but then again 'Job Application' doesn't exactly get you going.. This film revolves around eight applicants who have made it to the final step of a job application process, and are asked a simple question which they must then answer whilst following a few simple rules...
This film is one of those clever keep-you-guessing-until-the-end films and is really good at exploring the dark depths of the human psyche. It has actually been described as 'Saw, but without the gore'.. I don't think I'd go as far as to call it that. This film was an enjoyable watch although the ending while it was good, could have been better in keeping up with the caliber of the rest of the film... or maybe I'm just used to complete mind-fucks like Inception. Enjoyable and worth watching, but don't expect  to be blown away  ....6.5/10

Currently Listening To

A Thousand Suns is the latest incarnation of the band Linkin Park. As a long time fan of the band, they are about as close to a favorite band for me as any can get, with the diverse musical palate that they offer. The band itself seems to have evolved, from the wild rap/rock that was their album 'Hybrid Theory' into something more mature and refined. Teaming up once again with Rick Rubin (who they worked with for the 2007 album Minutes to Midnight), I was hoping for a return to the raw power of their older albums as wash shown in the pre-MtM track QWERTY.

A Thousand Suns grapples with the personal cycle of pride, destruction, and regret found within human beings and you can really feel the influences of events such as the Haiti earthquake (which resulted in the amazing track Not Alone, which is definitely worth a listen). Standout tracks include the high-energy single 'The Catalyst' as well as 'Wretches and Kings' and my personal favorite 'Blackout'. 'Iridescent' and another fave 'Robot Boy' are really cool uplifting, relaxed tracks. Although this album definitely took a bit more time to sink in, Linkin Park seem to have found themselves within it and I really enjoyed it.       ...9/10

The Part Where I Lost My Braincells

Thursday this week was the night for the Deakin Commerce Students Society's second trimester pub crawl. Due to a lack of numbers (I blame the week long break screwing it over) it was not on par with last year, although my own efforts were somewhat concentrated (armed with a new haircut and a get-loose attitude I was fucked before I got to the predrinks at uni.. hot tip, eat food before you go out kids!).

Even so, a fun time was had by all who participated, with epic watermelon-in-the-face countdowns, extreme loss of blood (see my head wound and why chairs need to stay under people here) and the eventual arrival at Eureka which, as per usual, did not disappoint! The soberness in the taxi on the way home and the return of cranial-feeling and resulting hangover the next morning would have to be up there as one of the most painful experiences I've had whilst indulging in Geelong's night life. I guess that means the pub crawl lived up to it's name...

Exotic Adventures and Public Transportation

Today I journeyed through the pain-in-the-ass that is the world cycling championships, to catch the train to Melbourne, where I went out for dinner to a place nestled down a cobble-stone laden alleyway in China Town known as the Supper Inn.Quality of food was better than I expected, although the cramped premises and creepy mister miyagi-esque host had me slightly uneasy throughout.

Not to mention, the raucous Collingwood supporters that even managed to invade the restaurant, as well as fill up the train home meaning myself and a friend had to sit on the floor as well as be verbally assaulted by the only sound more annoying than a vuvuzela; the cry of an encouraged Pies supporter.

On a final note

I'm shattered I was unable to attend the Chopped Rod and Custom Show 2010. And I just realized it's freakin' late and I've nearly written a novel (congrats if you made it this far) and the RainyMood is happening, so I need to sleep before I turn into a zombie and chew my arms off..

Leave a comment about your views on exams, or any exotic adventures you may have had in and around public transportation, as well as anything you'd like to see in this blog..
