The holiday season is upon us again, and as always I get scared something bad is going to happen, as it normally does at Christmas time (it's a long story). As always I'm seeking the ideal NYE, my goal being to end up in a crankin' spa somewhere getting hammered with good friends....
After the jump look forward to my regular reviews as well as some WikiLeaks and R Ratings..
So WikiLeaks is the talk of the town these days, for those of you not in the know it's basically a place for people to post anonymously information/leaks that may have previously been secret and/or unavailable to general public.
Interpol have placed it's creator Julian Assange on their red list on supposed sexual offenses. Who in their right mind would actually believe that bullshit? Clearly anyone with something to hide is feeling the heat of a guilty conscience wondering if they will be next. There's been suggestions of awarding Assange with a Nobel Peace Prize, while others would have him silenced forever.
One thing is for sure, with the power of the internet, the ball is now rolling. Freedom of speech is a right, but there is a real world cost to the knowledge that is released. Have a think about whether this knowledge is double edged blade or not while you watch this leaked footage shot from a US Blackhawk: Collateral Murder (warning, this is the 'short' 17 minute version, be warned it also has fairly graphic imagery).
For a long time now, Australian gamers have been crying out for an R rating for their video games. For several years now South Australia's attorney-general Michael Atkinson has sat in opposition of such a classification. Now that he has stepped down, his replacement John Rau has stated his openness to its introduction. Australia's attorney-generals met today to discuss the matter and the federal government is expected to support its introduction.
I whole-heartedly endorse the introduction of an R rating. Although I don't think it would make a whole lot of difference in the present day and age as most restricted content can be accessed via the internet.
This infamous scene from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as well as the images to the left from Call of Duty: Black Ops are proof of the inadequacies of the MA15+ rating.
Although the new rating won't stop kids from getting their hands on the games it will grant law makers more power in making sure these games are only available for audiences that can handle them.
This month, my vision's going blurry from
Supernatural is an american action/drama/horror series produced by Eric Kripke. This series has something for everyone, for lovers of horror themes, those in it for the eye candy or people who just want your regular drama, with the story following the lives of brothers Sam and Dean Winchester, who hunt supernatural beings. What sets Supernatural apart is that unlike many other action/horror series is that it actually does it well.
The relationship between Sam and Dean is constantly explored, as well as the timeless ideals of brotherhood, family and friendship. Supernatural has some pretty awesome special effects and can be a bit gory at times. Superatural's main strength is its solid cast and personally I enjoy the variety of monsters that seem to be thoroughly researched and well designed. An awesome series, long live the Impala! 9/10
Now engaging my ears
American born rapper Kanye West's latest album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is not your conventional album, to say the least. Following his outburst at the 2009 MTV VMA Awards, and consequently being called a 'jackass' by President Obama himself, Kanye, on a somewhat downward spiral canceled his tour and holed himself up in Hawaii, with this album as the result.
Clearly, the guy is bat-shit crazy. And to really pull off an album like this you'd have to be. Kanye blows away the norms of what entails a hip-hop album, with abrupt stops, random electro, heartfelt vocals, insane auto tuning and a variety of other additions that have to be heard to be believed.
I've only completed two listens of the album and am in no way through listening to it and I will not link a song for people to listen to as the whole thing needs to be listened to to be truly appreciated.
This album will make you think what the fuck was he on and blow you away with its tenacity and ability to meld the different styles. 8.5/10
